Commemorating a Special Week

Next week, we are eager to help our students understand and experience the most significant week in our Christian faith. We will remember and celebrate Holy Week in very special ways with your children. As the apostle Paul states in 1 Corinthians, we would be the most pitiable of all people were it not for the significant events that Jesus endured during Holy Week. Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, we have hope in every circumstance. This past week, you have been invited to lift our HC third grader, Caroline Kanis, to our Risen Savior in prayer. The outpouring of love, faith and prayers from friends, family and community bear witness to the love of Christ shining stronger than the fear of the dark and unknown. Caroline’s family has tried to put into words the appreciation they feel for the love they have been blessed wtih, “We treasure each one of you; each prayer, though it may be fleetingly brief, is a precious ointment, a drop of healing, a drop restoration, a drop of wholeness of inestimable worth to us.”

You may follow Caroline’s progress and offer your support at their carepage and/or their facebook prayer page. Additionally, please see below for details regarding the Prayers for Caroline event planned for Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at the high school. This is intended to be a family-friendly event for those who desire to support and pray for Caroline, as one body of Christ, in her time of need. Caroline's Hospital Book

Prayers for Caroline
Any student, family, friend and/or community members who desires to join together with other brothers and sisters in Christ to lift Caroline and her family in prayer are invited to come to Holland Christian High School this Sunday at 3:00. For approximately 30 minutes we will pray together as well as offer meaningful activities for children to visualize their prayers as they too petition our Heavenly Father on Caroline’s behalf.

Additionally, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital has created a book for our children called book link here   In child appropriate ways, this books helps answer questions that young children may have about Caroline’s illness and her stay in the hospital.

Guatemalan Street Carpet
Did you know that our brothers and sisters in Christ living in Guatemala commemorate and celebrate the events of Holy Week by decorating their streets with a beautiful street carpet? You may have noticed a small piece about this in the most recent edition of The Banner. The children at South Side are also decorating a street carpet of sorts. Each classroom will depict the various events of Holy Week on a mural-sized piece of paper. The artwork will be pieced together on our floor creating our “hallway street carpet”. As students stroll by the carpet, they will be able to visualize how the events of that significant week took place and triumphantly climaxed with the resurrection of Christ! If you are able, please feel free to take a peek at our “hallway street carpet” toward the end of the week next week at South Side.
